REstartÒ Program San Diego |
REstartÒis a program of the Bobby Jo Lewis Foundation leading to careers in property
management. It offers training, mentoring and job placement assistance for participants
who have been caught up in a cycle of poverty, substance abuse, and domestic
violence. But more than this, the REstartÒprogram offers its graduates restored faith,
 renewed  confidence, and reclaimed self-respect.
 REstartÒbrings families home again.

The program also benefits our members who are in the multi-family
management business by providing them with motivated and committed
candidates who are trained, mentored over a three month period by our
own ARM members, and ready to be placed on-site on a small to medium
sized apartment building.

REstart:  It Takes a Village

(or at least a great team)

The REstartÒ program would not exist without the dedicated members of the Steering Committee. They are the ones who do the planning, handle the logistics, manage the course schedules, obtain the host properties, interview the students, provide the instructors, raise the funding, find the coaches, and do all the tweaking it takes to help the program grow and prosper. In fact, it takes over 2,000 volunteer hours to successfully graduate each REstart class.

Check out this team of professionals who are fully committed to the REstartÒ program, who not only participate on the steering committee but also each chair a separate subcommittee:

Co-Chairs Lucinda Garland of Capstone Real Estate Services and John Modlin of APTS Apartment Personnel Training and Staffing, Theresa Amos of Kilroy Realty, Kristin Bright and Mylene Haas of M.G. Properties, Kelly Campbell of Apartment Guide, Traci Krzywicki of APTS Apartment Personnel Training and Staffing, Judy Ezratthy of Mental Health Systems, Yas Ghafouri of Capital Growth Properties, Lauri Greenblatt of Promus Management, Heather King, Sallye LaMar of Sunrise Management, Julie Merry of Strategic Management, Melissa Miller of Fashion Furniture, D.J. Ryan of Kimball, Tirey,& St. John, and Cheri Wallace of ECP Commercial. And last but not least, Toria Watson of IREM, who provides support services to the committee.

Let’s give them all a well-deserved round of applause!

Update:

Softball Tournament: We have a final date for the upcoming softball tournament fund-raiser. Mark your calendar for August 23 at Robb Field in Ocean Beach. Watch for more details as soon as they are available. Meanwhile, you can start putting your winning softball team together.

Business Clothes Donations:  We continue to need women’s business clothing for our students in all sizes. Clothing, such as suits, slacks, skirts, blouses, jackets, and sweaters in clean and good condition, is perfect -- anything that would be appropriate for working in a leasing office. If you let the others in your offices know, you may be surprised at how many have business clothes sitting idle in their closets that they are willing to donate to the RestartÒ program. Contact Toria at the IREM office for drop-off information.

REstartÒ Opportunities:

With the upcoming REstart classes scheduled to begin, great efforts have been made to update and refurbish the warehouse to prepare for the needs of the graduates. Two companies have stepped up to supply their resources and time in making this happen.
Chris Cena of Pro-tech Painting and Debi Palumbo with Frazee volunteered their services, product, manpower, and personal time in the completion of this great endeavor.

For more information on ways you can contribute contact Toria at the IREM chapter office.
