REstart - The Power of HOPE
Every year IREM, Institute of Real Estate Management, offers a program called, REstart. Each year, up to
sixteen students take part in this dynamic program aimed at training new people in the industry while
promoting second chances within the community for individuals interested in regaining a hold on their
futures. Students spend sixty days in the program, studying everything from leasing, fair housing laws,
resume writing, self-defense and even dining etiquette. As if that is not a full enough course, they travel
out of the classroom after thirty days and spend the last half of the course at an internship site hosted
by many of our IREM members. The students enter the program very nervous with low self-esteem, and
many have battled countless obstacles in their daily lives. Most have not been in a classroom setting in
years and others have not worked at all or have been out of the workforce for several years. With a full
and challenging program, the students charge forward with both feet and step into REstart with a new

Women Changing the World of Real Estate Management

Carbon Footprint. We have all heard this term a thousand times, and we have all wondered what our impact truly is on this earth. But, if you’re like me, my over-caffeinated brain quickly gets carried away and the next thing I know I am wondering what to eat for lunch.
And, while I am not a true tree hugger, I do worry and wonder. And, today, somewhere between all of the statistics, pictures of trash, stories of smelly, age old diapers, and baggies full of 30+ year old newspaper, I realized that how I impact the earth isn’t really the issue; it’s what we can all do to fix it, even if only a just little bit. It isn’t about whining because of another piece of legislation coming out of Sacramento; it’s about us realizing that with or without that piece of legislation, we can truly make a difference for our environment.
As managers and owners of property, we have a direct pipeline to hundreds (or thousands) of people—hundreds of people that we get to help make better choices for our environment. We know that if it doesn't get you in your heart or mind, it will get you in your pocketbook. We continually mine our natural resources, yet bury these same resources into our landfills. So in essence, we are burying large amounts of money only to spend additional dollars continually mining these same resources we already have available to us.
But, can we work it out? Can we cast aside all of our old ways and get back to living for this brand new day? Today, we saw our job through a different set of eyes. And, today we know that answer is yes. read more

I have a nationally recognized designation that gave me the edge in my field. I regularly attend most all of the events and have found everything so very beneficial.

I like hanging out at the amazing events with my colleagues! So, I mostly just come to the events, but haven't tried any of the classes yet. hmmmm....maybe I should try one of those.

The networking opportunities are GREAT! I meet a TON of great Friends of IREM at a couple of the events each year and regularly utilize their services. Buuuut, I don't really go to the classes. hmmmm....maybe I should try one of those.
